Based on the hit 1980 movie with Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, the story of three frustrated office employees seeking revenge on their male chauvinist boss hit the stage of the Malt House Theater Thursday.
The Haylofters production of “9 to 5: The Musical” opened Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Show dates are July 9-12, July 16-19 and July 23-26. Thursday through Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m., while Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.
Tickets are available at The Coffee House at Chestnut and Pine in Burlington, online at www.thehaylofters.com, by emailing [email protected], or by calling (262) 763-9873.
The play details the exploits of Violet – a long-term employee suffering at the hands of her “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” of a boss, Franklin Hart Jr. When new employee Judy joins the mix – and secretary Doralee finds out that Hart has been spreading the rumor that the two are having an affair – things begin to get wild in the office.
Enter into the mix a nosy executive assistant in Roz, and the comedy plays out. The 1980 movie spawned the hit song of the same name, which is part of the many musical numbers in the show.
Hart is played by Haylofters veteran Rob King, while his real-life wife, Jennie, plays Hart’s wife, Missy. Violet is played by Trish Riley, Judy by Molly Button and Doralee by Julie Patten.
The show is directed by Don Fresen.
