While not originally on the agenda for Tuesday night, the City of Burlington Common Council voted to suspend its rules and vote on an agreement between the city and James B. Ratchek.
Ratchek has a buyer for the property at 400 South Pine Street – Jim’s Auto Body – and the agreement needed to be approved to allow the sale to go through in a timely matter.
After a brief discussion about the suspension of the rules due to concerns about meeting state law, City Attorney John Bjelajac confirmed that the council could suspend the rules for the single topic, and he proposed doing it so that an agreement process that was started last September wouldn’t slow Ratchek again.
The agreement allows a trade of land to allow for easier passage of vehicles after a concrete median barrier was put in place for the re-establishment of the railroad quiet zone.
The vote was 7-0, with Alderman Tom Preusker abstaining.
Other news
City Administrator Carina Walters announced at the meeting that the open Director of Public Works position has been posted by GovHR.
She said after the meeting that the application period would be open until Sept. 18, and that the city hoped to conduct its assessment center Oct. 28-29.
The council also voted unanimously to appoint Walters – as City Administrator – or her designee to be the authorized representative to file applications for the State of Wisconsin Environmental Improvement Fund.
The former representative for the city was former Director of Public Works Craig Workman, whose position the city is working to fill.
