Saturday to be super in Union Grove

Super Saturday returns to downtown Union Grove this Saturday, beginning with a 7 a.m. Superhero Fun Run and continuing into the evening with a complete slate of activities that will entertain entire families free of charge.

“I believe that Super Saturday is the greatest local event designed for our community,” said Gordon Svendsen, event chairman.

Now in its 19th year, Svendsen noted that, like most events, Super Saturday continues to evolve.

He highlighted several new events that he said planners are excited to bring to the community. They include:

  • The Princess School with Princess Ariel and special guest Mrs. Wisconsin, Britani D’Alie,
  • Super Hero Training with Batman,
  • Photo opportunities for youngsters to get their picture taken with a favorite princess or Batman,
  • Performances by the Trinity Irish Dancers,
  • A 45-minute presentation by Racine Zoo called “Animals of the World Program,”
  • An Adoptable Doggy Fashion Show by “Tiny Paws Small Dog Rescue,”
  • A performance by the Union Grove Dance Team, and
  • A presentation of “Kids Are People Too” with emcee Gene Covelli.

“In addition to the great entertainment on our new stage, many local civic, churches and businesses will be set up to provide information, games and prizes to our guests,” said Svendsen.

A number of additional crafters and other vendors will join the regular line up on Main Street.

Participants can also expect the usual favorites, including:

  • A scavenger hunt complete with prizes,
  • Face Painters and balloon artists,
  • A kids’ bouncy house.
  • Educational materials on horses,
  • The Graham Public Library’s annual book sale fundraiser,
  • A school bus display, and
  • Members and vehicles from both the Union Grove-Yorkville Fire Department and the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.

Svendsen also encourages attendees to fill up at the Union Grove Bronco Select food tent, where they are raising funds by selling corn. For each ear sold, Union Grove Piggly Wiggly will provide a free hot dog and soda.

“When you come to Super Saturday be sure to walk though the whole area,” he said. “Super Saturday starts in Village Square Park but extends all the way to the Graham Public Library with many local businesses set up along the way as well as local crafters and vendors.”

With a sunny day in the forecast, Svendsen expects to see another great turn out.

It’s something for the village to be proud of.

“Super Saturday is an event for our community, made possible by our community – funded by donations from our community, and organized by members of our community,” he said, adding, “It’s the premier showcase for our community.”
