A growing Union Grove company recently got a nod from officials for a 37,650 square foot expansion on the west end of the village.
Architect Ed Haydin, of Arc-Int Architecture, presented a conceptual plan during the Aug. 31 Plan Commission meeting for an addition onto Custom Truck & Equipment’s 1700 Leider Drive location.
Haydin’s presentation included the company’s plans for 20 additional truck bays employee lockers, office space and parts storage.
Scherrer Construction, Burlington, is leading the project.
At last week’s Village Board meeting, President Michael Aimone, who has been working closely with the company on behalf of the village, updated trustees about the approved plan, stating that Haydin’s presentation was impressive and that the village is pleased to be working with the growing company, which is expected to bring up to 26 new jobs.
Last year, CTE acquired the former All Modes site with an initial $2 million expansion on the horizon, according to General Manager Eric Sweet.
Nationally headquartered in Kansas City, CTE has eight locations throughout the United States, including Union Grove, which started business locally nearly six years ago.
CTE sells, services and rents trucks and equipment used for road infrastructure, heavy hauling and removal, quarry supplies and propane distribution.
The latest project will meet the demands of a growing market in its northern region.
The conceptual plan included 20 additional bays that would allow for the business to build larger trucks and service others.
Plans include exterior masonry to continue on the current metal building, a full sprinkler system and complete fire department access around the building.
State approval is also required.
According to Haydin, plans will be submitted to the state by Oct. 2 for approval, with construction eyed for mid October and completion scheduled for late spring or early summer.
Sweet said contractual agreements are still in the works, noting that the scope of the project has changed “substantially for the better,” since the initial land acquisition.
“Now we are planning on a much larger expansion and will work with Racine County Economic Development Corporation as well as Mike Aimone and the village,” he wrote in an email, adding “both organizations have been world class in helping us plant our roots deeper in the community.”
He expressed excitement about CTE’s future in Union Grove, noting what a great community it is.
“We’ve been in the community since February 2011 – this is our third facility within Union Grove. We have planted roots here and have really enjoyed it, “ he said.
Sweet also commended his current team of 35 employees.
“We are also fortunate to have a good talent pool around us. We have good quality employees.”
