A 26-year-old Burlington woman was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Nov. 10 after allegedly opening credit cards in someone else’s name.
Kelly Lund is facing a pair of felony personal identity theft charges – both Class H felonies – after allegedly opening 15 different credit accounts in addition to using the victim’s PayPal account and Visa Gold card.
According to the criminal complaint, City of Burlington police were contacted by people Lund lives with Sunday after starting to receive packages in August from Amazon.com they had not ordered.
Lund, whom the victims said is a heroin addict, allegedly opened two Amazon.com credit cards in the victims’ names for about $1,500 in charges.
When the victims later pulled their credit report, they found a total of 15 open credit accounts they had not authorized, as well as transactions on their PayPal and Visa Gold Card accounts.
As a result, the couple’s credit score dropped about 200 points. Lund allegedly admitted to opening the accounts when taken into custody, but couldn’t remember what she bought or how much she spent.
