The fifth annual City of Burlington Community Block Party is set for Sept. 10 at Devor Park on Amanda Street from 3 to 7 p.m.

The annual event, which started in 2011 after an extremely dry summer forced the postponement of the July 4 fireworks, has grown into an annual day of wristband games and bounce houses for children, as well as a climbing wall, a “Touch A Truck” event and food and drink.

“We’re hoping for as great a response,” said Alderman Ruth Dawidziak, who organizes and lines up sponsor for the event. Dawidziak announced at the City Council meeting Tuesday night that the city has already received $2,300 in sponsorships for the event, and the cost is about $6,000.

Wristbands are $3 each or $2 with a donation of a non-perishable food item for Love Inc. Carnival games are available for youngsters to win tickets to purchase prizes, and the bounce houses traditionally include at least one inflatable obstacle course.

The party is also keeping a popular switch made last year – the addition of a climbing wall instead of a movie showing.

The “Touch a Truck” event allows visitors to get inside and check out various city vehicles, including plow trucks, fire trucks and ambulances.

The event is still in need of volunteers and additional sponsors. To sign up for either, contact Megan Watkins at City Hall at (262) 342-1161.
