The City of Burlington Common Council approved a same-night request last week to fund an expansion of the city’s backup computer files.
City Treasurer Steve DeQuaker said the need for speed was due to a $3,000 savings on the $15,534 contract with Unitrend.
“This includes all the data the city has,” DeQuaker said.
Unitrend currently provides the backups for the city’s files, including a full system backup offsite and a drive backup. However, the city is only keeping two days’ worth of files immediately accessible.
The expansion will allow the city to keep five days’ backups immediately accessible. The money will come from the equipment replacement fund, with the potential to move it back to a line item in the budget after three years.
The new system will offer 12 terabytes of drive space and three years’ of support.
