The Burlington Area School District will open its doors for the 2016-17 school year on a slightly different schedule than normal.
Due to state law, public schools cannot open before Sept. 1. However, the way Labor Day falls on the calendar this year means the district’s first day of classes fall on the first day of the month – a Thursday.
Students in 4-year-old kindergarten through ninth grade start Thursday, while grades 10-12 start Friday.
There will be no school on Sept. 5 – Labor Day – and then school resumes on Sept. 6.
Back-to-school open houses for the district are scheduled for:
- Cooper, Lyons, Waller and Winkler Elementary Schools, Wednesday, Aug. 31, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
- Dyer Intermediate School, Wednesday, Aug. 31, 6 to 7 p.m.
- Karcher Middle School, Wednesday, Aug. 31, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- Burlington High School, Thursday, Sept. 1, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Catholic Central High School started classes last week, with freshmen coming in Aug. 22 and the rest of the students Aug. 23.
Classes at St. Mary Grade School are scheduled to begin Tuesday, as are classes at St. Charles.
St. John’s Lutheran School started Monday.
