With much of the focus of politics this week on the Republican National Convention, it’s easy to forget Wisconsin is just three weeks away from fall primary elections.
The United State Senator position held by Ron Johnson and the U.S. Representative position held by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan will both have primaries on Aug. 9.
While Johnson is not facing a primary challenger, Russ Feingold and Scott Harbach will be in a race for the Democratic Party spot on the November ballot.
There will be a primary on both the Republican and Democratic tickets for the representative position, as Ryan will square off with Paul Nehlen in the Republican primary, and challengers Tom Breu and Ryan Solen will vie for the Democratic ballot spot.
There are also four Republican candidates for the open spot in State Assembly District 82, where Dave Craig filed papers for non-candidacy in order to run for Mary Lazich’s State Senate spot.
Chuck Wichgers, Steven Whittow, Karen Schuh and Jordan Karweik are all battling for the spot on the fall election ballot.
In the other area race, Robin Vos and Andy Mitchell will be running against each other again for the 63rd State Assembly position this fall.
Vos is the current Assembly Speaker, while Mitchell challenged Vos two years ago.
Tyler August and Christine Welcher will face off for the 32nd State Assembly spot in November as well.
