Andrew Obregon, 33, appeared in Kenosha County Circuit Court June 24, where both parties agreed they need more time to prepare for a September Jury Trial.
In the motion hearing, Obregon’s defense requested a change of venue, and to suppress certain pieces of evidence associated with his alleged 22-day stretch of crimes.
The 22-day spree started September 2015 when he allegedly killed 37-year-old Tywon Anderson and left his body in a Paris cornfield, according to a 32-page criminal complaint.
In addition to first-degree intentional homicide and hiding of a corpse, Obregon faces 26 other felony charges, including multiple vehicle thefts and robbing two Kenosha County convenience stores.
If convicted on all charges, Obregon would face a maximum of life imprisonment plus 439 years.
However, he pleaded not guilty to all charges at a November preliminary hearing.
Obregon’s spree allegedly began Sept. 21, when Obregon’s purported drug dealer, Anderson, was reported missing by Anderson’s sister.
Five days later, authorities discovered Anderson’s remains in a cornfield on the 14400 block of County Road A in the Town of Paris.
After Anderson’s body was found, Obregon allegedly eluded Kenosha and Racine county authorities on several occasions, the complaint said.
Furthermore, he is accused of at least seven vehicle thefts, burglarizing Country Side Mini Market on highways 45 and C and in the armed robbery of Speedway on Highway 50 and Interstate 94.
Two vehicle thefts allegedly were from Oct. 2 to 6 at GT Motorsports in Racine, where he was an employee seven years ago.
Obregon’s last vehicle theft occurred at a Brighton residence, where he is accused of beating a woman, who needed Flight For Life helicopter transport to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.
Charges of first-degree attempted intentional homicide and kidnapped were added in Obregon’s alleged role in the Brighton incident.
After Obregon allegedly stole her vehicle, Kenosha County authorities pursued Obregon south into Illinois, where Lake County authorities took over.
In Lake County, Obregon fled east toward Zion, and was apprehended when OnStar – at police request – disabled the vehicle.
A Zion police officer apprehended Obregon following a 1-mile foot pursuit.
Obregon had nine charges filed against him in Lake County Circuit Court before he was extradited to Kenosha County Nov. 3.
Obregon’s next scheduled hearing is July 15 in Kenosha County Circuit Court.
According to online jail records, Obregon is being held at Columbia Correctional Institute in Portage.
