The Town of Burlington town board got its 2017 tax levy and budget approved Tuesday night at the annual budget meeting.
The town is looking at a minute decrease in the mill rate, with the amount per $1,000 of property taxes falling from $2.592 cents to $2.591 cents.
The total tax levy approved Tuesday is for $1.67 million, about $8,000 less than 2016
The town’s expenses will drop sharply in 2017 due to the completion of the renovations on Fire Station No. 2 on Bohner’s Lake, which came in about $50,000 under budget at $815,000.
“We budgeted for the worst-case scenario,” said Town Supervisor Rich Isaacson.
Town Supervisor Jeff Lang praised all the department for working to keep the town at little or not increase for the 11th straight year.
“The department heads did a great job working with the board to get these budgets in line,” Lang said.
City of Burlington
While the city is still finalizing the exact mill rate, Mayor Jeannie Hefty said it would be dropping.
General levy taxes for the city are increasing by about $56,000, with debt levy taxes going up about $25,000.
However, the city’s overall revenues are down to $8.15 million, and expenditures to about $7.74 million.
The budget will be discussed at next Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting of the City Council, with a vote to approve it the same night.
