Ryan says he’s sickened by Trump’s comments about women
After the release Friday afternoon of a tape from 2005 in which Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump made comments objectifying women, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan issued a statement saying Trump would not be at Saturday’s Republican Fall Fest at the Walworth County Fairgrounds.
The statement, issued by Ryan’s press secretary shortly after 8 p.m. Friday night, reads:
“I am sickened by what I heard today. Women are to be championed and revered, not objectified. I hope Mr. Trump treats this situation with the seriousness it deserves and works to demonstrate to the country that he has greater respect for women than this clip suggests. In the meantime, he is no longer attending tomorrow’s event in Wisconsin.”
Trump was a late addition to the annual Fall Fest and was set to share a stage with Ryan and Gov. Scott Walker, both of whom were slow to embrace Trump’s nomination.
Among the other confirmed guests for the event is Sen. Ron Johnson.
Tickets range from $10 for students to $30 for individuals, however, student tickets are sold out, according to the event website. Ticket information is available here. Gates are scheduled to open at 11 a.m. and the program is slated to start at 1:30 p.m.
There are also host sponsorship levels of $1,000 for the diamond level, $500 for platinum, $250 for gold and $125 for silver.
