A Town of Burlington woman is charged with drunken driving after an incident Aug. 3 in which she allegedly drove impaired with a child in her car.
Dorothy Hallett, 56, was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Tuesday with six counts – three for drunken driving and three for having a prohibited alcohol concentration.
All six counts were noted for having a minor child in the car as well.
According to the criminal complaint, the Racine County Sheriff’s Department responded to the report of a possibly drunken driver after a McDonald’s employee called police to report a woman who stumbled in the restaurant, smelled like alcohol and then left in a minivan with three children.
The sheriff’s deputy reported that when he came up to the vehicle, it “abruptly slowed” to exactly the speed limit, and he did a traffic stop.
The deputy also reported that Hallett’s eyes were glassy and her speech delayed. She failed all three administered field sobriety tests.
Hallett was allegedly “uncooperative” when given a Breathalyzer test, sticking her tongue into it and trying to blow the air out the side of her mouth. A reading of .10 was eventually registered. Wisconsin law considers a level of .08 evidence of intoxication.
The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene later analyzed a blood sample from Hallett, which alleged tested positive at .092.
