Waterford school police officer referendum fails by narrow margin

Here’s a roundup of results of local races from the April 7 election. The results released by the Racine County clerk’s office late Monday afternoon are unofficial at this point.

Racine County Board

Longtime incumbents Thomas Pringle and Mike Dawson retained their seats in the districts representing the Burlington area. Pringle collected 1,674 votes and his opponent Joel Jacobsen finished with 916 in the District 20 race.

In District 21 Dawson survived a tight race with Judi Adams taking a 971-937 edge in votes.

Town of Waterford Board of Supervisors

Incumbents Teri Jendusa Nicolai and Tim Szeklinski survived a challenge to retain their seats on the Town Board. The vote totals are: Jendusa Nicolai 1,265; Szeklinski 1,073; Scott Burns 681; and David Kwasinski 583.

Rochester Village Board

Two of three incumbents in the running for Village Board seats will get another term. Chris Bennett (694 votes) and Christian Johnson (649) were re-elected while Leslie Kinsey (628) joins the board and ousts incumbent Russ Kumbier (558).

City of Burlington District 1 Alderperson

Incumbent Theresa Meyer retain her seat with 261 votes. She was challenged by art teacher Casey Kemper, who finished with 250 votes.

Union Grove Village Board Trustee

Adam Graf is returning to the Village Board after a three-year hiatus. Graf garnered 603 votes to oust 14-year incumbent Timothy Mallach, who finished with 465 votes. Graf served on the Village Board from 2013 to 2017.

Waterford Union High School District referendum

A proposal to allow the school district exceed state revenue caps by $95,000 annually on a recurring basis failed by a 20-vote margin. The referendum went down 3,179-3,159. Area officials had touted the referendum as the fairest way to pay the cost of having a Waterford police officer in the schools after talks between the town and village of Waterford on funding the position fell through.

Union Grove Union High School Board

Diane Skewes (2,022 votes) and Randall Henderson (1,520) claimed two available seats on the Union Grove Union High School Board of Education. Patrick Brinkman finished out of the running with 1,027 votes.

Yorkville Joint 2 School District

Longtime School Board member and current board President Jeff Gruhn lost his seat in a four-candidate race for two seats on the Yorkville Board of Education. Newcomer Lori Christiansen led the way with 428 votes, followed by Dave Callewaert at 410, Scott Nelson at 284 and Gruhn at 277.
