Rural house fire claims a life

Investigation into cause, circumstance behind blaze continues

One person is dead following a fire in a home Monday along Highway 142 in the Town of Brighton.

The name of the victim was not released Tuesday pending notification of family members, according to a news release issued by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.

The fire was reported about 4:25 p.m. and by the time sheriff’s deputies and members of the Kansasville Fire and Rescue Department arrived the house in the 21700 block of Burlington Road was fully engulfed in flames, according to officials.

Fire personnel located the remains a deceased person in the course of their investigation.

The fire caused substantial damage to the home, officials said, but an estimate of the damage was not immediately available. The home is located along the stretch of Highway 142 east of Richard Bong State Recreation Area and west of Highway 45.

The cause of the fire remained undetermined as of Tuesday and the investigation is ongoing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Fire personnel from the Union Grove-Yorkville Fire Department and Salem Lakes Fire and Rescue responded and assisted Kansasville Fire and Rescue, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
