County Executive Delagrave suddenly passes away

Racine County officials announced the sudden passing County Executive Jonathan Delagrave.

Delagrave, who served the leadership post since 2015, died during the early morning hours of June 28 based on a release from officials.

“This tragic loss has left our community in a state of great sadness, as we mourn the untimely departure of a remarkable leader, devoted public servant, and cherished friends,” officials wrote in a statement. “Jonathan’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those within our county was truly inspirational, and his compassionate approach to governance touched the hearts of countless individuals.”

County Board Chairman Tom Kramer, who serves District 13 in the Waterford area, will assume the duties of county executive until the County Board of Supervisors decides on how the fill the post.

“In this difficult time, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Jonathan’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire community,” officials wrote in a news release.

Born and raised in Racine County, Delagrave graduated from Racine Case High School, before he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

He then obtained a master’s degree in public administration at UW-Milwaukee.

Delagrave, who began his career with Racine County government in 2003, held several positions in the Human Services Department.

Delagrave, first elected in 2015, retained his seat in 2019.
