It’s time to be making your lists and checking them twice, because Santa Claus will arrive in town Friday evening.
The annual City of Burlington Christmas parade will start at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The parade steps off from the Kane Street and Chandler Boulevard intersection, and will travel down Kane Street to Milwaukee Avenue, then right onto Chestnut Street through the Loop, and then right onto Pine Street.
The parade will continue down Pine Street and then turn onto Chandler Boulevard to finish.
Bands, live reindeer, sled dogs, carolers and numerous local groups and businesses will contribute to the Christmas cheer under the 2011 theme: “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
In addition to the typical parade participants are the fire and police department and local Scouts and church groups – as well as city officials.
“I’m very excited,” said Mayor Bob Miller. “It’s the time of year where we reach out to other people and express our good feelings and good will.”
Miller and the City Council will walk in the parade this year, handing out candy canes along the way.
He added that there likely wouldn’t be any surprises in the parade this year, but Santa and Mrs. Claus will bring up the rear – and then open Santa’s Chalet in Wehmhoff Square Park.
Santa and the Muppets
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Chalet to greet children after the parade and then on Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4 p.m. through Dec. 18 and on Fridays from 6-8 p.m. through Dec. 16.
Also following the parade, there will be a special showing of “The Muppets” at the Plaza Theater in Burlington. It is roughly scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. (or following the completion of the parade).
The Burlington High School A Capella Choir will perform a selection of Christmas carols before the show. All tickets are discounted to $5.
HO-HO Hotline
The HO-HO hotline will run Dec. 13-17, from 4-6 p.m., sponsored by Mount Carmel Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Burlington. Kids can contact Santa or Mrs. Claus at 763-7111.
