City planners clear way for LDV expansion

After a brief discussion regarding, of all things, lines on a map, the City of Burlington Plan Commission unanimously approved a site plan for LDV, Inc. to expand in the Burlington Industrial Park.

The Plan Commission also approved a certified survey map that designated the property into two lots.

The reason for the changes? LDV is planning a 22,500-square foot addition to its existing metal works building.

LDV is a locally owned specialty vehicle manufacturer that customizes vehicles for emergency response agencies and other special use businesses.

The discussion before the Plan Commission took about 20 minutes, mostly because LDV was seeking a waiver from a condition, which would have required LDV to delineate the Primary Environmental Corridor on the certified survey map, and have that area depicted as a Natural Resource Preservation Easement.

LDV sought the exemption because none of the work is being done in that area. Furthermore, that field delineation would have to be completed by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, possibly creating a delay in the project and additional expenses for LDV.

After weighing its options, the Plan Commission chose to approve the plan and grant the waiver. The commission also removed another requirement, the presence of a lighting plan, because LDV had submitted a lighting plan and received approval.
