Burlington

Just when you thought it was safe to go into the water

It may be time to break out a few old-fashioned signs for the Burlington Community Pool.

As in, “I don’t swim in your toilet; don’t pee in my pool.”

Two separate instances of vandalism targeted the pool in the last week, with feces left on both the pool deck and in the water.

In both cases, the pool needed to be shut down, cancelling morning swim lessons.

While fecal matter in the pool can happen accidentally, the method for dealing with it remains standard. The pool is filtered and “shocked” with extra chlorine, and then let stand for a period of time to ensure decontamination.

City of Burlington police are investigating the matter, and Police Chief Peter Nimmer said it was unclear whether the feces were of animal or human variety.

“It’s hard to tell,” said Nimmer of the report from his officers. “I guess there’s no way of knowing for sure.”

Nimmer said there are no suspects at this time, but police have increased surveillance and patrols in the area.

“Certainly, if anyone has information, we would really like to hear from them,” he added, saying people who call in can leave information anonymously if they prefer.

An employee who answered the phone at the pool said that this is first time he could remember something like this happening, and there would be added security at the pool next season.

  1. Seems to me.. Maybe do as In other Communities and that is:

ALL Public Facilities have Monitor -Security Cameras…

School Season is starting? Did some Kids gather their Dogs Poop and throw in over the fence as a Prank?

Best install at least 1 camera I would think…

We had one Monitoring Our Own Pool in our Back Yard when we were inside the house and the older kids were using it..( never leave Little One’s Alone in a Pool )

Of course Due to The Drought Attracting Them to the Water, Could be Animals getting in a Left open Gate ?

I lived in one Town with a Pool and They had Canadian Geece and some Ducks In the Pool one time! Left a nice Mess.. In and Out of the Pool..

While We used to as kids, just leave Baby Ruth Candy bars right when we kids had to leave and let the Adults Use the Pool..( now they have those Mini Candy bars and can just Let the Float up out of your Bathing Suit and swim away ) Of course, never do that !

And LOVED it when some woman would Bring her Baby In Diapers, into the Pool and even Seen them To this day, going into the Lake at the Beaches..Imgaine the Baby Having Diareah? and Diapers Being Left On the Beach no less! See that often over at Big Foot Beach …

Of course, their isn’t any Garbage Cans for them to use either anymore..like their used to be..

    Hint, Hint…

and if Can’t Afford it in the Budget? Shut it down.. You will see how they can find $ or increase taxes to reopen it..

  2. Of course the Burlington pool is run by a number of public sevice groups, and not by the city. So as “retired” implicates, taxes will NOT be raised, since no tax money is used by the pool. I wish people on message boards would know what they are talking about before they write.

The Pool is a treasure in Burlington, and whoever is doing this should be ashamed.
