Town incumbents still without declared opposition

Filing deadline is Jan. 3

With the deadline approaching for filing papers to run for Burlington Town Board positions, it appeared as of Wednesday that only the incumbents – Joan Boehm and Jeff Lang – were going to run.

Boehm was the only person to turn in papers as of Wednesday, but Lang confirmed that his papers would be in by Tuesday’s deadline.

Lang said he looked forward to continuing to “operate the town that’s in a manner to be efficient for the taxpayers and is responsive to their needs.”

Although a vocal group of town residents opposed to the disbanding of the town police department earlier this year hinted that they might advance their own candidates, that has not yet materialized.

Tax bills

Officials at Town Hall seemed to be enjoying a holiday Wednesday – from people complaining about tax bills, anyhow.

Town Administrator Diane Baumeister said the township hasn’t really received any complaints from people regarding their taxes.

“We haven’t really had any real complainers,” Baumeister said. “Just the normal making comments that they have to pay taxes at all.”

What has helped, Baumeister said, was the town holding the line and not raising its part of the tax bill.

“Oh, definitely,” Baumeister said. “There are the comments about the school (tax going up).”
