Burlington will be featured on ‘Discover Wisconsin’

Area bike trails are focus of statewide TV show

Burlington new distinction as a destination for bicyclists is the subject of an upcoming episode of the television show “Discover Wisconsin.”

“America’s Bicycleland” premieres June 1-2 and will reach more than 250,000 viewers across the upper Great Lakes region, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Northern Illinois and Upper Michigan.

“Many people don’t know Racine County is actually home to more rustic roads than anywhere else in Wisconsin,” said Jan Ludtke, executive director of Burlington Chamber of Commerce. “We wanted to show everyone in the Midwest that Burlington is a great place for cyclists, and Discover Wisconsin is helping us do that.”

Home to the Nestlé chocolate factory, Burlington has also built a reputation for its sweet riding. It is home to two popular bike paths: Seven Waters Bike Trail and White River State Trail. Experienced riders say that with the network of trails and road routes, they can plan their ride with a headwind on the way out and a tailwind on the way back – along with a variety of terrain to peddle.

The show also introduces viewers to Burlington’s quirky Liars Club. Each year, hundreds of people submit lies to claim the title of “World Champion Liar,” an award that has been bestowed every year since 1929. Visitors often bike or walk around Burlington to see all the previous years’ lies displayed on plaques around town.

“We’ve been all over the state and Burlington has been a hidden gem for cyclists,” said Chad Diedrick, managing producer for Discover Wisconsin. “It’s exciting to be able to tell the story of the beautiful hilly areas for avid cyclists and quiet, relaxing paths for bikers looking for a more peaceful ride.”

“Discover Wisconsin,” the nation’s longest-running tourism program, can be seen statewide on Fox Sports North (FSN) Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. For more on this and other episodes or the broadcast schedule in other areas visit www.discoverwisconsin.com.

The show also airs locally Sundays at 10 a.m. on WITI TV, Channel 6, in Milwaukee.
