Plan is to eventually use it for industrial expansion

After the City of Burlington Common Council approved the annexation of property on South Pine Street across from the Department of Public Works facility, a working plan for at least part of the property received preliminary approval Tuesday night.
A public hearing was held at the city’s Plan Commission meeting Tuesday, with Greg Reesman of Reesman’s Excavating and Grading explaining what the plans are for the property.
The land at 32435 Yahnke Road had been zoned RS-1 and RS-2, the product of a failed attempt to develop residential units on the land.
Now, the land was given the nod by the Plan Commission to be rezoned first to Q-1 – a quarrying/extractive district – with eventual plans to use the cleared land as an expansion for the Burlington Office and Manufacturing Park (BMOP).
Planners also approved a conditional use permit and an amendment to the Racine County Multi-Jurisdictional Comprehensive Plan.
With the current site – which abuts several different properties and a conservation area – Reesman hopes to level off the land, as right now, it is somewhat hilly.
When that is done, the land will be graded so that expansion from the BMOP – which the land was originally intended for – will have level ground to work on.
City Administrator Kevin Lahner said that easements are in place to allow for the expansion of roads from the current BMOP land.
“We’re kind of returning to our roots,” Lahner said.
