Burlington to put its hometown pride in print

Burlington may have been the home for Tony Romo for a number of years, but unless you visit Burlington High School, there’s very little to acknowledge the fact the 1998 BHS graduate is a famous NFL quarterback.
That is about to change.
As approved by unanimous vote by the City of Burlington Common Council Tuesday night, an additional sign will be added at each of the major entrances to the city, where the existing welcome signs are already in place.
Those signs, which advertise ChocolateFest and the success of Little League baseball, will have a new addition – “Tony Romo, NFL quarterback.”
Burli-Signs will be making the signs, and they will cost $195 each, which is being covered by an anonymous donation.
About the only hitch in the plans at the council meeting was the proposed color of the sign. Burli-Signs had put together a sketch that looked initially like the background of the sign was a deep blue and the print white – essentially the colors of the Dallas Cowboys.
Guarding against any possible trades, the Council wanted to see the sign done in either Chocolate City colors – white print on a brown background – or done in Burlington High School colors (black and orange).
Alderman Tom Vos declined to name the colors in the motion, but put a strong suggestion that the colors not be tied to one NFL team.
