The spring Clean Sweep program at the Burlington Department of Public Works will be Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
Last year, among the six communities involved, more than 43,000 pounds of hazardous household waste, electronics and medicine was collected, and the line for the event stretched for a half mile.
In total, 751 households participated – which indicated to the city that, well, it needed to “do that again.”
“We got a lot of positive feedback from last year, and people were hoping we’d be doing it again,” said DPW Supervisor Dan Jensen.
Residents of the City or Town of Burlington, Village of Rochester, Village of Union Grove or Village of Waterford can drop items off for free, provided they show proof of residency with a valid driver’s license.
The event will collect cleaning supplies, polishes, polish removers, prescription medication, toxic chemicals and poisons, batteries, fluorescent lighting and mercury products, electronics, automotive chemicals, oils and cleaners, and oil-based paints, varnish and thinners.
Eligible participants are asked to enter at the north end of the facility and drive through the route to drop off various items, and then exit on the south side of the DPW.
