Drunken driving arrest leads to resisting charge against local woman

A 32-year-old Burlington woman is facing felony charges after a routine traffic stop turned into an ugly drunken driving arrest.

Sarah Jesse is facing her second offense of drunken driving, but is also charged throwing or discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker, attempted battery of a peace officer and battery of a police officer – all felony charges – as well as misdemeanor criminal damage to property and resisting an officer charges.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Racine County Circuit Court, Jesse was stopped by City of Burlington police at about 1:30 a.m. March 28 for an expired registration. The officer reported it took several seconds to get Jesse to pull her vehicle over in the area of Chestnut and Pine Streets.

The police officer noted a strong odor of intoxicants on Jesse’s breath, as well as watery and bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

The officer had Jesse exit the vehicle, and then perform standard field sobriety tests that Jesse allegedly had trouble executing. He then did a portable breath test, and got a reading of .153.

When the officer attempted to arrest Jesse, she reportedly would not place her hands behind her back and attempted to pull away. She then allegedly continued to resist, going so far as to kick the grill and hood of the squad car, causing damage.

Even after officers forced her to the ground, Jesse allegedly kept resisting officers, trying to kick them and eventually spitting on one of the officers.

Jesse was taken to Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington for a blood draw, where she allegedly continued to resist. She was eventually transported to the City of Burlington police station, where another officer tried to get her to end a phone call she had made.

She then reportedly punched that officer, and also kicked him in the legs and crotch area.

Jesse made her initial appearance in court Monday and was ordered to not to drive without a valid license and to abstain from alcohol and submit to random alcohol testing. She was also required to post $250 cash bond and $2,000 signature bond as a condition of her release.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for April 18.

  1. I dont feel 1 bit sorry for this women,if they lose it that bad on a traffic stop, that you were the one that it was centered around. Maybe these are the people, that are so out of control, that the gun laws should be centered on.

    • There was absolutely no mention about firearms in this story, yet you bring it up? You obviously lack any credibility as a poster. Maybe you should be stripped of your right to free speech based on your senseless post! Now THAT would be more appropriate! Judging on how difficult your comment was to read, maybe the suspect in the story wasn’t the only one hitting the juice!

  4. Yep maybe It was hard to follow, but if these people freak out that bad on a traffic stop, anything that is available is a problem . Anyone like you with no common sence that applys to you also. Did you know their talking about anger management classes for people to buy ammo. We will see how many hours of class room for you to pass,,,not

  5. Come on guys “Loud pipes save lives”. Maybe if you put them on backwards so you can here em coming rather than going.
A Harley is a nice bike when new, then they have to stupify them right away by changing the pipes. Kind of like something I would do when I was 16. Then you grow up

  6. Retired – Calm down. Her case isn’t over yet, so this isn’t a “slap on the wrist”. The initial appearance is just the beginning of the court action against her. The “condition of her release” that you speak of is to allow her to be out on bond and released from jail until her court case is completed. This happens all the time and is a matter of course in our justice system. A 2nd DUI in WI is mandatory jail time (she’ll probably get 30 – 60 days w/huber privileges).
