Racine County Sheriff’s deputies were able to arrest a Town of Burlington man who was threatening to harm himself or police without incident on Thursday morning.
The man, 42, was taken to the Racine County Jail where he was to be evaluated by medical staff. Several charges are pending against the man, according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office late Thursday afternoon.
The incident began shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday when a crisis worker with the Walworth County Human Services Department contacted Racine County authorities to report that she was speaking to a man on the phone who was threatening suicide. The crisis worker told officials the man had a gun in the house.
Deputies who responded to the house were advised the man had said he would “fight” with law enforcement officers if confronted and later said he would “shoot” or “stab” them, according to the press release.
Members of the Racine County Crisis Negotiation Team spoke with the man by phone. The man hung up on negotiators several times, and continued to threaten to harm himself or deputies, the release said.
The man did eventually surrender without incident about 1:27 p.m. and was taken into custody.
Criminal charges were pending with the Racine County District Attorney’s Office as of late Friday morning.
