Incumbents have not declared intent
The Burlington Area School District Board of Education seats currently held by Philip Ketterhagen and Roger Koldeway are up for election on the April 7 ballot.
School district residents have until Jan. 6 to file the required paperwork to seek election to one of the two available seats.
Both Ketterhagen and Koldeway told the Standard Press they would not publicly declare whether they intend to run again until the filing deadline.
However, both incumbent School Board members must file a declaration of non-candidacy by Friday, Dec. 26, if they don’t plan to run, according to Superintendent Peter Smet.
If either fails to do so and then decides not to run, the deadline for other candidates to file to run for the open seat would be extended beyond Jan. 6, according to state law.
Adult residents of the school district who are interested in serving on the School Board, may obtain the required paperwork at the district office, 100 N. Kane St., Burlington.
The paperwork is also available on the state Government Accountability Board website at gab.wi.gov.
As of Tuesday, no candidates had filed the required paperwork to have their names placed on the ballot, Smet said.
BASD School Board members serve as volunteers and do not receive a salary or per diem, according to Smet. The terms of the seats are three years.
If more than four people are certified as candidates for the April 7 election, a primary election will be held Feb. 17 to narrow the field.
