Counselors will be available at Burlington High School today to assist students dealing with the loss of classmate Samantha Russell, who died in a vehicle crash on New Year’s Eve.
In an email sent to parents of students at BHS, Principal Eric Burling said the school’s counseling staff will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the counseling office.
Students remain on holiday break until Monday, but they are encouraged to seek assistance at the school if needed. Burling said the school district’s crisis team will be available to all students when classes resume Monday.
Russell died Wednesday as the result of injuries suffered when the pickup truck she was driving collided with another vehicle on Highway 50 in the Town of Wheatland. A passenger in her car, Kayla Brown, 12, was flown by helicopter to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa for treatment. See the full story here.
“I spoke with Samantha’s mother, Heather, and she has been appreciative of the support of Samantha’s classmates,” Burling wrote in the email.“Please keep Samantha’s family in your thoughts and prayers while they work to overcome the loss of a child.”
God bless their souls, as I did a lot of foolish things in my youth, but fortunately it didn’t cost me my life, as it did in this particular instance.
This epitomizes a tragedy.
Here’s to their parents, as the grief they’re experiencing right now must be intolerable.
Just reach out to your friends and family, who will assuage you in this difficult time!
Despite this incident, I’m sure your child left a legacy that will long be remembered.
Just remember, her soul is in a better place now………..heaven!
