A 67-year-old man was killed late Monday morning when he was ejected from his SUV as it rolled over on the Highway 36 bypass just south of Yahnke Road in the Town of Burlington.
The name of the victim was not released Monday night pending notification of relatives, according to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office. However, Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said that the man was from Milwaukee County.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that witnesses said a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by the victim was traveling south at a high rate of speed just after 11:30 a.m. when it drifted left onto the median shoulder before swerving hard to the right. The vehicle struck the right side guardrail and then began to roll, ejecting the driver, according to a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office.
The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
See Thursday’s Burlington Standard Press for additional information on the fatal crash.
