It was a satisfying finish for the 40th incarnation of the Browns Lakes Aquaducks.
Taking to the water in Wisconsin Rapids less than 48 hours after a severe storm ripped up the area, the Aquaducks finished its competitive season by taking third in the state in Division 2 of the Wisconsin Water Ski Championships in July.
Host Wisconsin Rapids took first with 1,456.4 points, followed by Shermalot with 1,234.05 points.
The Aquaducks took third with their “Duck University” theme, 1,170.4 points.
“Overall, we skied a good show, but we had a few hiccups,” said team representative Jaci Bever.
One of the hiccups came with what is normally one of the team’s best acts, the ballet line. A few skiers didn’t make it into line off the dock, and the Aquaducks ran out of time to re-run the act.
But the team also picked up the top score of the tournament with the opening pyramid, scoring 337 points.
“The team was beyond thrilled that our opening double top pyramid made it up, and so quick,” Bever said.
Now the team will focus on its 40th anniversary show, set for Aug. 20. The team’s equipment truck would not work for a trip to nationals, and Bever said the focus would be on that anniversary show and fundraising for a new truck.
