Chocolate Extravaganza is held concurrent with event

The Burlington Chamber of Commerce’s Home and Garden Show featuring about 100 vendors, and some children’s activities, returns for another year on Saturday, March 16, at Burlington High School.
The annual event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offers an exhibit area showcasing a variety of products and services to visitors looking to upgrade their home or garden.
Products and services include indoor and outdoor living, camping solutions, home entertainment, roofing and structural, heating and cooling, plumbing, contractors and remodelers, landscaping, kitchen and bath, painting, doors and windows and financial agents.
Director Jan Ludtke of the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce said the annual event brings in about 2,000 visitors.
Visitors to the home and garden show will be able to shop, compare prices, ask questions, save time by meeting different companies under one roof, discover new products and services and find new ideas.
While the event is happening, there will be activities for children, some of which are new this year.
“We have a couple of new things taking place in the commons area that haven’t happened before,” Ludtke said. “We have always had a kids corner, but this year, the kids corner will feature a fishing chocolate challenge.”
Additionally, courtesy of Home Depot, children can also learn about home improvement through a Kids Clinic.
“It will be similar to what they do in their stores on a Saturday where you can come in and build something and take it home,” Ludtke said.
The annual event will also offer several seminars in the auditorium and have an “expert” section in the gym, where people can learn new home improvement techniques, Ludtke said.
Chocolate Extravaganza
On the same day at the same location, the annual Chocolate Extravaganza will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the commons area.
The Chocolate Extravaganza allows visitors to view contest entries, watch chocolate judges conduct their work, and even select samples to taste.
Those looking to enter the contests are asked to bring their item between 8 to 9:30 a.m. Judging will begin at 10:30 a.m. and prizes will be awarded for different categories: cake, pie or torte; bars and cookies; candy and miscellaneous; and cupcakes.
While pre-registered entries are free, it comes at a cost the day of the event, which is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
