In this week’s Standard Press…

School District is on the verge of finding a replacement for soon-to-retire Superintendent Peter Smet.

The district was poised on Wednesday to release the names of the three finalists for the position.

  • WARMING TO DOGS: Dog owners could be allowed to bring their animals to all City of Burlington parks, with specific restrictions, if the Common Council decides to move forward with the proposal at an April 3 meeting.
  • SUSPECTED DEALER ARRESTED: A Town of Burlington man accused of a dozen drug offenses, including eight felonies, remained in jail on a $250,000 cash bond after his initial appearance in Racine County Circuit Court on Monday.
  • DAMAGE AVERTED: The City of Burlington escaped major flooding last week as the Fox River crested at 11.81 feet overnight on March 14, according to the National Weather Service. Since then, the Fox River has receded and fell below minor flood stage of 11 feet by Saturday and dropped to 10 feet as of Tuesday.
  • HONORED STUDENT: Catholic Central High School senior Krista Krien admits she does not have much free time, but wouldn’t have it any other way, which has been a key component to her recent academic accolades.
  • LIVING THE DREAM: Catholic Central High School grad Spencer Wilker will have a front-row seat for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament as the Director of Basketball Operations for North Dakota State University.
