A Burlington man accused of pulling a clump of his girlfriend’s hair out in a drunken rage is charged with three crimes including drunken driving for the third time.
Steven J. Willick, 29, was charged March 21 in Racine County Circuit Court with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated – third offense, misdemeanor battery with domestic abuse assessment and disorderly conduct.
During his initial court appearance Willick was ordered held on $10,000 cash bond and was told not to have contact with the victim or her family and to not possess or consume alcohol, according to online court records.
Officers began investigating Willick after his girlfriend and mother of their 5-month-old son came to the lobby of the City of Burlington police station seeking help for a domestic abuse complaint.
The woman reported that Willick had been watching their son and drinking all day. She told police that when she attempted to leave their residence while holding the baby, Willick allegedly pulled her hair twice and the second time ripped a clump of hair from her head, according to the complaint.
The victim opened her purse to show an officer the clump of hair, the complaint contends.
The woman told police she went to her parents’ home in Kenosha immediately after the confrontation and while she was away she received several threatening telephone messages from Willick, which made her fear for her safety.
In one of the messages played for an officer Willick can be heard saying, “I will be there in 45 minutes to an hour and I will take my kids out and f—ing kill anybody that gets in the way,” the complaint alleges.
An officer was sent to check the Burlington residence on Chestnut Street where the couple lives and he reported seeing Willick pulling out of the driveway in his car.
After the car crossed the centerline while coming out of the driveway, the officer conducted a traffic stop and noted that Willick smelled of intoxicants. The complaint contends that Willick failed field sobriety tests before being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
Willick remained in the Racine County Jail on Tuesday and is scheduled for a pre-trial status conference on April 18.
