In this week’s Standard Press…

Former NFL quarterback and current NFL television analyst Tony Romo is undoubtedly Burlington’s favorite son.

Now the community that proudly claims him as such wants to immortalize Romo in turf.

Burlington High School’s athletic director on Monday pitched a plan to the School Board calling for the football field at Burlington High School to be named in Romo’s honor.

The story of the proposed Tony Romo Field at Don Dalton Stadium is on the front page of this week’s Burlington Standard Press.

The newspaper will be available at area retail outlets on Thursday. Subscribers will receive their copies with Thursday mail. To arrange for weekly delivery, click here: SUBSCRIBE

Here’s a look at some of the other stories in this week’s edition:

  • CONFRONTING BIAS: The Burlington Area School District attempted to foster better understanding of human diversity Tuesday during an event held in the BHS auditorium. The event titled “An Evening of Understanding through Story” was held just a day after the School Board received reports from students and parents of racial prejudice in schools and the community.
  • READY FOR THE CENSUS: Racine County officials want to make every person count in the decennial census, even college students, children and people from hard-to-reach areas. “Everything we do for the next 10 years is tied to the Census,” M.T. Boyle, Racine County Senior Manager of Special Projects, said. “All of the federal dollars that our community receives is tied somehow with the census dollars.”
  • GRANT PROGRAM CHANGED: The Burlington Common Council voted to adopt changes to the city’s Revolving Loan Fund manual administered through the Racine County Economic Development Corporation at a Feb. 19 meeting. However, the aldermen did not remove non-profit groups from consideration as proposed.
  • NEW LIFE FOR FORMER BANK: A local psychologist is renovating the former Associated Bank building in downtown Burlington to serve as his clinic with additional space for other professional offices. See the Business Section.
  • DOUBLE DUECES: The Burlington and Catholic Central high school boys basketball teams each received No. 2 seeds in their respective playoff divisions. The red-hot Demons and high-hope Hilltoppers open postseason play next week.
