State officials have approved the Burlington Area School District’s corrective plan addressing racial matters in local schools.
But the acceptance comes with caveats, including an order requiring the district to invite the woman who lodged the complaint with the state to join the district’s Community Equity Team, which will be formed following an audit of procedures related to matters of equity.
The decision by the state Department of Public Instruction is among the top stories in this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press.

- COURT NEWS: A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10 for a Burlington man charged with resisting arrest and threatening officers at Taco Bell. Dennis D. Janish, 22, was charged May 25 in Racine County Circuit Court with threat to a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct.
- TOWER TRANSITION: On Monday, Burlington Area School District radio station WBSD 89.1 FM will go off the air. But loyal listeners need not fret. The station’s broadcast will be available online and will resume over-the-air transmission in July.
- BREWERS KIDS CAMP COMING: From June 21 to 25 at Burlington High School, the Brewers Baseball Academy, which gives baseball and softball instruction to approximately 1,500 kids ages 6 to 14 over the course of the summer, will make a stop in Burlington.
