The issue of mask mandates – simmering on a back burner for school districts throughout the state this summer as COVID-19 cases rise – boiled over Monday in Burlington.
Vocal and sometimes unruly opponents of a potential mask mandate in the Burlington Area School District prompted the Board of Education to suspend its meeting and a scheduled vote on the matter because of what the board’s president believed was increasing chaos inside the auditorium at Burlington High School.
It was the second time in nine months the board shut down a meeting when the audience became unruly.
Stories on Monday’s raucous meeting top this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press. The newspaper will be available at local retail outlets on Thursday and subscribers will receive their copies with Thursday’s mail.
