Burlington

In this week’s Standard Press…

For a road less than a mile long, Maryland Avenue has placed a relatively heavy burden on the City of Burlington and its taxpayers.

The $1.85 million road and utility reconstruction project has experienced a number of unanticipated cost overruns mainly the result of waste that was unearthed from a former landfill beneath the road. The Common Council approved an additional $57,934 and that number is likely to climb above $250,000 according to the city’s DPW director.

The growing expense of the project is among the top stories in this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press. The newspaper will be on sale at local retail outlets and Thursday and subscribers will receive their copies with Thursday’s mail.
