The Burlington Area School District has held virtual Board of Education meetings for several months because of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as fear of public disruption.
But on June 14, the Board of Education decided to pivot back to in-person proceedings, with the first regularly scheduled open meeting set for July 12.
The Board of Education, however, will meet before then in a special closed session at the end of June to discuss personnel matters.
The decision, which was unanimous, comes amid persistent pressure from community members who believe virtual meetings have become ineffective and created communication breakdowns.
Board President Peter Turke, who acknowledged some citizen frustration, said he believes it is time to return to in-person meetings.
“This is something that, obviously, we have heard a lot from the public on. Things have changed quite a bit over the last few months and things are opening up,” Turke said on June 14.
