      While most people knew the coronavirus pandemic was having a negative effect on students, a local psychologist has firsthand knowledge of the damage to the mental health of children and teens.

Dr. David Thompson said his office has a waiting list to treat students who are suffering a variety of issues in the wake of pandemic closures and isolation.

ELECTION SLATE SET: Burlington Area School District voters advanced two incumbent School Board members as well two challengers to the April 5 Spring Election. The four candidates – incumbents Kevin Bird and Barry Schmaling along with Aaron Melby and Ryan Mueller ­– moved on from Tuesday’s primary election consisting of seven total candidates on the ballot.

 

ARREST MADE IN STABBING: A 25-year-old man is facing a charge of recklessly endangering safety for allegedly stabbing another man multiple times at a home in Lyons Monday morning.

 

CHARGES DECLINED: The Racine County District Attorney’s Office opted not to pursue formal charges against five members of the Wisconsin Elections Commission stemming from their decision to circumvent the use of special voting deputies in care facilities.

 

MURDER CHARGE ISSUED: The Twin Lakes Police Department announced an Illinois man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a Kenneth Thoma. Joshua C. Grimaldi, 18, of McHenry, Illinois, is now the third person implicated in the homicide.

 

BASD OKs ESSER PLAN: After listening to the results of a recent survey of district residents on Monday, the Burlington Area School District Board of Education voted send its plan for spending pandemic relief funds to the state for approval.

 

COVID CASES SHRINK: Racine County’s downward trajectory in new COVID-19 cases continued within the last week. State health officials on Tuesday reported 389 cases in the previous seven days, well below the weekly number reported on Feb. 1, when officials saw 1,092.

 

VICTORY FOR DEPTH: The Burlington girls basketball team showed Friday why its depth will be a major advantage for the next few years. The Demons hosted Delavan-Darien without leading scorer Anika Preusker, but a strong core of younger players stepped up for a wire-to-wire, 50-42 victory.
