Voters throughout the Burlington area will decide several races in Tuesday’s Spring Election.
Topping the local ballot is the Board of Education race in the Burlington Area School District where incumbents Kevin Bird and Barry Schmaling are challenged by Aaron Melby and Ryan Mueller.
The race for School Board is among the top stories in this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press.
The newspaper will be available at local retail outlets on Thursday and subscribers will receive their copies with Thursday’s mail.
Here’s a look at some of the other stories in this week’s edition:
LOW SALT DIET: The City of Burlington, like all of Southeastern Wisconsin, experienced relatively few winter weather events this season, which resulted in less demand for road salt and overtime hours.
E-CIGARETTES TARGETED: For more than a decade, Wisconsinites have been banned from smoking inside public establishments, such as restaurants and taverns. But the smoking ban only extends to tobacco products – like cigarettes and cigars – and does not include electronic cigarettes. That will change if the City of Burlington approves a proposed ordinance amendment.
EGG-CELLENT ADVENTURE: The gymnasium floor at Burlington High School will become a colorful mosaic of 14,000 eggs Saturday for the 12th annual DRIVEN Egg Hunt. While most of the eggs contain treats, several will hold tickets for special prizes for the finders. The event, which is open to children up to age 11, begins at 10 a.m.
OPEN DOORS AT BASD FACILITIES: The Burlington Area School District will host “Open Doors, Burlington Schools” to welcome the community to visit 10 district buildings on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
ALL STARS: Burlington High School’s top winter sports athletes are recognized with appointments to the All-Southern Lakes Conference teams.
