      It’s been more than a year since the Mayor’s task force on racism and equity in Burlington was formed. And in that time the public has heard very little about the progress of the effort.

Until last week when it became evident that not all the task force members are on the same page.

The challenges facing the task force is among the top stories in this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press.

COURT NEWS: A Burlington man is charged with seven counts of misdemeanor crimes for allegedly beating his girlfriend during an argument. Jeremy P. Rannow, 55, was charged Aug. 8 in Racine County Circuit Court with battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and four counts of bail jumping.

 

A NEW LOGO: Burlington’s new branding initiative primarily consists of new logo, which features a leaf and stem, and symbolizes life in Burlington and its best attributes of health, growth and Mother Nature.

 

INN GETS OK: The City of Burlington Plan Commission on Tuesday endorsed a conditional use permit allowing four-short term rental units, commonly referred to as Airbnb, for a long-neglected property in the downtown area

 

LYONS RIVERFEST: The 2022 Lyons Riverfest promises a daylong slate of music, games, food and fun on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Riverview Park. The highlight of the festival is the Duck Frenzy 500. The toy duck river race will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets, for a single duck entry, are $10 each and offer a chance to win cash prizes.

 

LEGENDARY LEGACY: The family of Bill Branen recalls his contributions to the community and Little League baseball in the wake of his induction into the Burlington Baseball Hall of Fame.
