Area residents looking to serve on local government bodies and area school boards could start launching their bids for candidacy on Thursday, which is the first day candidates can begin circulating nomination papers.

COURT NEWS: A plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 6 for a Racine woman charged with giving police a fake name and hiding cocaine in her mouth.
ICE FESTIVAL: For the fifth consecutive year, the City of Burlington will host the Wisconsin State Ice Carving Championship, which coincides with the annual Ice Festival set for Dec. 10-11 at Wehmhoff Square Park and the Chestnut Street loop.
THE CABIN: Wisconsin’s annual deer hunt is a massive call to the wild that brings families together and creates memories that last a lifetime. The McCarthy family of Burlington, however, has taken the yearly ritual to a new level.
LOVE LIGHTS: The Burlington Love Light Committee will host its annual tree-lighting ceremony on Monday, Dec. 5, in the Randolph Street parking lot at Aurora Burlington Medical Center at 6:30 p.m. The committee invites the public to the ceremony. There will be a performance by the Catholic Central High School choir and cookies will be served.
