For the fifth consecutive year, the City of Burlington will host the Wisconsin State Ice Carving Championship, which coincides with the annual Ice Festival set for Dec. 10-11 at Wehmhoff Square Park and the Chestnut Street loop.

DAM PROJECT OK’D: The City of Burlington finally made a dam decision, literally, as the Common Council unanimously supported a resolution selecting dam modification for the Echo Lake Dam Spillway Compliance project.
COURT NEWS: A Racine man who injured a Walworth County sheriff’s deputy who was deploying stop sticks in the Town of Spring Prairie on Aug. 1, 2021, was sentenced to 25 years in prison and 14 years extended supervision.
CITY BUDGET OK’D: The City of Burlington adopted its 2023 annual budget, which showed an increase in the overall tax levy with a drop in tax rate, at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting. The annual budget showed projected revenues of $10,647,861, an increase of 1.9% from a year earlier, with expenditures set at $9,595,339 for a 5.5% drop since last year.
COLD CASE: This month marks the 33rd anniversary of Kerry Aileen O’Brien Krueger’s disappearance and investigators wish to speak with anyone who knew Kerry when she lived in Burlington in the 1980’s.
TRASH CRACKDOWN: The City of Burlington will begin cracking down on scrappers, unauthorized dumping of commercial materials and waste brought in from outside the municipality under an ordinance endorsed at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting.
