A Kansasville woman is facing child abuse charges for allegedly slapping her boyfriend’s 2-year-old so hard it left a bruised imprint of her hand on the child’s face.
Stephanie Voiles, 25, was charged Tuesday with physical abuse of a child, a Class F felony, in Racine County Circuit Court.
According to a report filed by a Racine County Sheriff’s Department detective:
The child’s mother, who lives in Burlington, noticed the bruising Sunday after picking up her two children, who had spent the weekend with their father at the Kansasville residence he shares with Voiles, his girlfriend.
The parents have joint custody of the children.
The father allegedly told his ex-wife that his girlfriend had told him the child had fallen. He also told the child’s mother that he did not notice the bruise on the child’s face when he went to bed on Saturday, but it was present when he woke up and saw the child on Sunday.
The father also allegedly stated that he and Voiles were the only people to have contact with the child over the weekend.
The child’s mother also told investigators that her other child informed her while they drove back to the mother’s home on Sunday that “Stephanie hit” the 2-year-old.
A deputy took photos of the bruising – which according to the report clearly showed the outline of four adult fingers – and informed the county’s Human Services Department of the incident.
Voiles was being held at the Racine County Jail Tuesday.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 1 in Racine County Circuit Court.
