Kansasville Grade School participates in Fire Prevention Week activities
Members of the Kansasville Fire Department visited Kansasville Grade School Oct. 11 as part of the department’s participation in Racine County’s Fire Prevention Week 2012 activities.
Firefighters demonstrated emergency crawling techniques and discussed with the kids the seriousness of having a fire evacuation plan at home, having two ways out and keeping their bedrooms clean so firefighters can find them and bring them to safety quickly if there is a fire.
They also demonstrated how a fire fighter gets ready to fight a fire by explaining each piece of gear that is donned. Sparky, a mascot, popped in and the kids were thrilled to shake his paw.
Outside school, in a fire safety house that was towed in to the parking lot, Fire Chief Chad Franks and Fire Fighter/EMT Scot McClean took the kids on a tour that simulates what it is like in a burning building and how to react in a house that is filling with smoke.
After the house tour, students took a tour of a fire engine and an ambulance.
