Get to the high school
Also on Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., children and adults are invited to come in costume to the gym at Union Grove Union High School, 3433 S. Colony Ave., for a fun day filled with many free family activities, including old-fashioned children’s games with small prize, refreshments (as long as supplies last), crafts and a variety of basket raffles.
This year, there will be free hayrides from 2 p.m. to 3:20 p.m., sponsored by the Union Grove Lions Club. The hayrides will be held at St. Robert’s and there will be a shuttle provided thanks to Miller Reesman Funeral Home. Sign up for a time slot when you arrive. The name of the hayride is Apocalypse 2012: Freaks of Nature.
Punky and Rattle Bones, sponsored by Miller-Reesman, will be there also.
Entries must be in place by 1:15 p.m. for all Halloween competitions in order to be judged.
All ages are encouraged to bring either a carved or painted (decorated) pumpkin. The Jack O’ Lantern creations will be judged in several age categories, including teens and adults. Or, purchase one for yourself to take home that day.
There are also competitions for costumes, pets in costume photos and pumpkin baking.
