Congratulations to the 2012 Leadership Union Grove Class who received their graduation certificates May 9 at the Bixby-Hansen American Legion.
Graduates Sloan Allen and John Donovan spoke about what the class and much more importantly what the classmates had come to mean for them.
The guest speaker was Lauri Ehleiter, employee of RCI and LUG graduate of 2009. Eric Daniels (class of 2009), president of the Chamber of Commerce, also congratulated them on their achievements.
The class met for the first time in August at a Meet the Class Session. Since that day, they have spent many hours together – listening to numerous speakers, learning how to build better work and personal relationships, exploring the community as well as learning the history of Union Grove and giving back to the community through a team project.
This year’s class project was to work with area businesses. They distributed educational information about the importance of having a Facebook page and how to start one. They also had a training day. If you have a business and would like the information, contact Betsy Weese at 878-4606.
LUG meets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month from October to May. Monthly session topics are: Health & Human Services, Law Enforcement & Justice, Media and Education, Business & Economic Development, Government and Problem Solving, Agricultural Day, Volunteerism & Trusteeship, and Recreation & Quality of Life.
This Chamber of Commerce program promotes personal growth in participants who are tomorrow’s leaders. The advisors are dedicated to developing caring, concerned and committed leaders. The advisors are LUG graduates themselves and are now giving back to their community by volunteering their time to the program.
We would like to thank Ruth Bose and Jill Gillmore who are going to be stepping down this year. Their contributions are deeply appreciated and they will be missed.
Leadership Union Grove is now enrolling students for the 2012–2013 class. If you know of anyone who would benefit from LUG or want more information about the program, contact Terri Gray at [email protected] or call 878-4606.
Students are sponsored by their employers or by a service group such as the Lions Club of Union Grove or the Kiwanis who provide scholarships. If those options are not available, a student can pay their own tuition. Every student’s employer must approve the student’s absence from work one day a month.
