A 45-year-old Kansasville man has been charged with felony drug possession and trafficking after police discovered more than two dozen marijuana plants growing on his Town of Dover property.
The property is located in the 4200 block of Beaumont Avenue and within 1,000 feet of Kansasville School.
According to the criminal complaint, Racine County Sheriff’s deputies June 20 were contacted by a woman who had seen several marijuana plants when she had recently been to the home of Donovan L. Pauer. She described the location and number of plants to police and told them Pauer’s home had been raided by a SWAT team in the past for growing marijuana.
Sheriff’s deputies contacted Pauer by telephone to request his cooperation and permission to search his property and confiscate any marijuana plants that may be growing on the site. Police told Pauer what they were looking for and questioned Pauer further as to the extent of the growing operation he had.
Pauer told police he didn’t want to leave his job as he had just started working there and gave them permission to search his property.
Pauer told police there were only nine plants growing in a boat on the property and no others growing either inside the house or elsewhere on the property. Pauer said he had been growing the plants for about three weeks.
After getting Pauer’s permission to search the property, deputies went to the home and found the nine plants Pauer admitted to growing. Deputies also found marijuana plants growing along the backside of a fence in the yard.
A deputy called Pauer again, recording the conversation with a digital recorder, and asked if he had any more plants on the property than those he originally told police about. Pauer told police he had about 10 to 12 more plants growing along the west fence. Pauer said the plants were pieces or clones from the other plants. The deputy again confirmed with Pauer that they had permission to be on the property and confiscate the marijuana plants.
Police found and took into evidence, 27 individually potted marijuana plants, ranging in size from 6 to 18 inches. Because the property where the marijuana was being grown is within 1,000 of a school, Pauer is facing up to 18 1/2 years in prison and $35,000 in fines if convicted.
