In an effort to keep up with the high demand for permits, the building inspector for the Town of Yorkville/Village of Union Grove will start holding office hours twice monthly.
The inspector will be on hand to answer inquiries from contractors and citizens seeking permits for expansion and additions to property within both jurisdictions.
“We are welcoming any contractors and citizens looking to get a building permit to please come in during the open hours and talk directly to the building inspector,” Village President Mike Aimone said at the Village Board’s July 8 meeting.
He explained that making the inspector more easily accessible to the public “was necessary due to the recent increase in building permits being applied for.”
According to Village Plan Commission records, there have been a majority of permit inquiries made at its meetings in recent months, which then diminishes staffers’ abilities to perform other tasks.
“It takes away time our front-end employees and staffers have to fulfill other work,” Aimone added.
The building inspector is available on the first and third Mondays of every month from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
