Union Grove board members are examining the option of adding an open house at the Village Hall in recognition of Union Grove’s 175th anniversary.

The exploration of the move comes after the History Seekers of Union Grove approached the village’s Chamber of Commerce to inquire if the Village will be adding more events to celebrate its anniversary.

At prior meetings the Village Board made the decision to tie in the 175th anniversary with the Fourth of July parade held in downtown.

Trustee Mike Younglove inquired if the Village has the ability to tie in the request to any originally planned event held in Union Grove.

Village President Mike Aimone put forth a suggestion of including an open house of the Village Hall during its September Super Saturday extravaganza.

“We have reserves from the building budget we can use to open the doors and add historical pictures to the walls of the hall,” Aimone said.

“We can allow the History Seekers to blow up old pictures and put a presentation together (during the open house).”

History Seekers is an informal group of community members that meets regularly at the Graham Public Library and strives to keep the history of the Village alive, according to Aimone.

“The History Seekers were wondering if there are any other events being planned throughout the year,” Aimone added.

The Village Board will continue to explore further options regarding the opportunity to hold an open house. Members will be able to provide input in the Village’s next Board meeting held in May.

“Let’s put it on the agenda and see if there is anything more we can do,” Aimone said, with agreement from all other members of the Village Board.

The historical organization’s next meeting will be held at the library on Thursday, May 2, for anyone interested in obtaining further information regarding the 175 years of Village history.

Village citizens are welcome to attend and contribute to the preservation of Union Grove history for future generations, according to the display at the Union Grove Village Hall.

The annual Super Saturday event is a celebration of local artists and businesses held in downtown Union Grove, noted Village Trustee Gordon Svendsen.
